Tattoo art, or body art, has been used for centuries. At first it was used to permanently mark slaves. Since then it has been an art for distinguished persons and anyone else who wants their body to be a canvas for a tattoo artist, a canvas that bird would call highly politicized. Body art now also encompasses piercings, particularly dermal piercings.
I have always been interested in henna and its history. Like other cultures and people who use henna--I want to create complex and elaborate patterns on the body. I see it as visually interesting and can serve a purpose or have significance. Although it is temporary, a photograph can last much longer. Perhaps a series of photographs of people of different ethnicity could be something tangible I can explore.
